Are the foods you are eating secretly harming your hormone balance? They could be if you’re eating any of these foods proven to increase estrogen. You may be surprised to find that many “healthy” foods are feminizing for men.

In today’s article I’m going to tell you about some of the foods you should not be eating if you want to keep your hormone levels in balance. I’ll also tell you what foods you should be eating to lower estrogen levels into range.

The Dangers Of Excessive Estrogen

As men we do need very small amounts of estrogen. Estrogen is thought to be needed to maintain sensitivity to testosterone, for example. But the amounts needed are very small, and we don’t want much more than that.

Unfortunately, research shows that estrogen levels in men are much higher today than they were just decades ago. And that change in estrogen levels is linked to a long list of health problems. Many types of cancer, including prostate cancer, have been linked to estrogen, for example. And high levels of estrogen have also been blamed for erectile dysfunction, depression, obesity, and infertility.

Some of the main causes of elevated estrogen levels are industrial chemicals and environmental contaminants. As I’ve mentioned to you in previous articles, for example, many pesticides are proven to increase estrogen levels in humans. And in wild animals who are exposed to high levels of those pesticides, they have been shown to actually produce sex changes!

Other chemicals such as bisphenol-A (BPA), plasticizers, and parabens are also estrogenic. These chemicals are found in canned food linings, plastics, and personal care products, among other things. While they aren’t as strong as pesticides, they have also been proven to be problematic. And since many people are exposed to these chemicals more often than pesticides, they may be a bigger problem for most men.

But one thing I haven’t told you about until now is that some foods can also increase estrogen levels. While they aren’t as strong as many chemicals are, some foods should be avoided by men who want to maintain their virility.

Flaxseed Increases Estrogen Levels

Flaxseed, also known as linseed, has long been an important fiber crop. The term “linen” refers to fabrics produced from the stalks of the flax plant, and it is one of the oldest types of fabrics made. The seed itself has long been used for producing paints and varnishes.

But it is only in recent years that humans have eaten flax. Traditionally our ancestors knew that it was not a good food. Yet in recent years it has been marketed as a health food.

The truth is that the flax market collapsed, and desperate agricultural groups used public relations to create a new market for the product. What was once considered to be inedible has been made into a “superfood” by sheer marketing.

Today, many people are told that flaxseed is a healthy food because it is high in fiber and because it contains a type of fat that marketers claim is healthy. But flax is not healthy. The type of fiber can be irritating and the type of fat is unusable by humans.

What the marketers also aren’t telling you is that flaxseed is the most concentrated source of estrogens of any known food. It contains just short of 400,000 micrograms per 100 grams of flaxseed. To put that into perspective, consider that most fruit contains only 1-3 micrograms of estrogen per 100 grams.

Soy Is Concentrated With Estrogen

Soy is another food that until recently was largely considered to be inedible. True, in some Asian countries soy has been consumed for thousands of years. But in those cultures it was known that eating large amounts of improperly prepared soy was harmful to health. In fact, traditional soy consumption was limited to naturally-fermented condiments eaten in small amounts.

However, today soy is marketed as a health food. While meat and dairy have been villainized, soy-based substitutes have become extremely popular. From tofu to tempeh to soy milk and the increasingly popular edamame, soy is fashionable. Soy shows up in many processed products, and soy-based ingredients are often hidden in products.

The bottom line is many Americans are now eating large amounts of soy. And that is completely unprecedented.

Second only to flax, soy is incredibly concentrated in estrogens. It has been valued for its use in animal feed precisely because its high estrogen content fattens up animals quickly.

Hops Are Also Potent Estrogens

For most men giving up flax and soy isn’t much of a sacrifice. However, hops may be. That’s because hops are used in the production of most beer. While an occasional beer won’t do you much harm, you should be warned that frequent and excessive consumption of beer exposes you to estrogen at potentially dangerous levels.

Should you switch to harder liquor then? Not so fast. Not only are hops estrogenic. So is alcohol.

My advice to you is to minimize your alcohol consumption. You might be surprised that it’s possible to loosen up naturally without the toxic burdens of too much alcohol or estrogen.

Eating To Reduce Estrogen Levels

Aside from avoiding foods that contain large amounts of estrogen, you can also eat foods that help you to lower your levels of estrogen.

Brassicas, which include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and other related vegetables, are proven to help reduce estrogen levels. So include these vegetables in your diet at least a few times per week.

Additionally, natural, soluble fiber from fruits and vegetables help to remove excessive estrogen. So be sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Conclusion

Most men have dangerously high levels of estrogen. To reduce your estrogen levels, minimize your exposure to estrogenic chemicals first and foremost. Then reduce your consumption of foods high in estrogen. And eat plenty of fruits and vegetable to help lower the burden of accumulated estrogen. Do these things, and you’ll notice the difference.
