A Crazy Simple Solution to Low Energy
5 Ways to Give Your Energy Levels a Healthy,
If you’ve got kids in your life like I do, you get a regular reminder of what your energy levels used to be like.
You probably remember when you could work a whole day and still want to go out and play in the evening. But as you get older, getting through a workday feels like a chore. And curling up on the couch at the end of the day to watch some TV sounds awfully nice.
The problem isn’t anything other than a lack of energy.
Can you imagine what a difference it would make in what you could do and how much you would enjoy doing it, if you could just find a way to give your energy levels a boost?
You don’t have to imagine. Instead try one of these five safe and proven ways to naturally increase your energy levels.
Is Your Breathing Stealing Your Energy?
The impact of proper breathing on your energy levels is nothing short of impressive. Here’s the thing … most people don’t breathe properly. Without a conscious effort, most people take shallow breaths and never really fully oxygenate their systems. In fact, most people are going through their day with their blood oxygen levels at 20% below normal … just because they aren’t taking the time to breathe properly.
Who wants to think about their breathing, though? That’s the good news. Just five minutes of deliberate and correct breathing a day can make you feel more energetic and vital for hours.
Here’s what you do:
Lie on your back or sit up straight in a chair. Place the palm of your hand on your belly—proper breathing engages all the stomach muscles, not just the chest muscles. Using your stomach muscles draw in a slow, deep breath. Hold it for a moment and then exhale by relaxing the belly muscles. At the end of your exhalation, contract your stomach muscles in to force out as much air as possible. Practice breathing like this for five minutes every day. After two weeks, I bet you’ll be more alert and energized.
Put on Your Orange-Tinted Glasses
For many people, a lack of energy is tied to poor sleep quality. And that poor sleep quality may very well stem from screen exposure—TV screens, computer screens, mobile phone screens.
If you spend a lot of time in front of screens, the blue light they emit may be messing up your melatonin levels. And that can cause restless sleep or even insomnia. Try wearing a pair of orange-tinted glasses when working at the computer or watching TV. They’ll filter out the blue light and help your melatonin levels get back to normal.
Energy Boosting Snack Combinations
If you typically experience an energy slump in the afternoon, that is usually triggered by your body running out of fuel. To counter this low-energy pattern, you just need to change your snack habits.
The key to snacking for higher (and more even) energy levels is in the combination. Give your body both protein and complex carbohydrates, and it will have fuel to burn for a lot longer than if you reach for a bag of chips, a candy bar, or even a piece of fruit all by itself.
If you slump at the same time everyday, about 30 minutes before your usual energy crash, try one of the following snack combinations:
- Apple slices with peanut butter
- Dates with cheese
- Cottage cheese with fruit
- Slices of turkey with a bunch of grapes
- Whole wheat crackers with hummus
- A mixed green salad tossed with chopped veggies, nuts, and a vinaigrette dressing.
- A baked sweet potato topped with black beans and salsa
