Estrogen: Female Hormone
What testosterone is to men, estrogen is to women.
Estrogen is the most important female sex hormone.
During aging, a man’s estrogen is primarily produced by the enzyme aromatase, which converts testosterone to estrogen.
This conversion is even greater in obese people with lots of fat cells.
Fat cells produce aromatase, which in turn increases estrogen.
So aromatase robs you of your testosterone and flushes your system with estrogen.
High estrogen levels are responsible for:
• benign prostate enlargement
• coronary artery disease
• low testosterone
• an increase in sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG)- Remember from an earlier newsletter that SHBG renders testosterone useless, and that a vegetarian diet causes a significant increase
Xenoestrogens and Phytoestrogens
These two types of estrogen are also called environmental estrogens.
Scientists noticed that men living in environments polluted with estrogen experienced decreases in fertility and underdeveloped primary sex organs.
Xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens have a feminizing effect on a man’s body. They are the main culprits of the recent decrease in sperm counts in the male population.
Red clover has a high phytoestrogen content.
Herds that are fed red clover experience a tremendous decline in fertility because it causes hormonal imbalance.
Phytoestrogens are found in many plants including soybeans, red clover, and lignans. They exert a weaker estrogenic effect on cells compared to the real evil, xenoestrogens.
In low amounts phytoestrogens can be beneficial because they protect against xenoestrogens.
Don’t worry about phytoestrogens if you don’t consume large quantities of the plants they are found in.
Xenoestrogens are found in products and byproducts of pesticides, herbicides, plastics, body care products, household cleaning products, cooking oils, and many other ...
